Enriching Students' Lives

As a part of the Ministry of Covenant Christian School, the vision of the athletic department is to Glorify God by cultivating wise servant leaders, through athletics.  Under the leadership of Christian coaches, athletes will be shown and develop Christ-like character.  They will be taught and develop skills so that they are able to reach their full athletic potential.  Athletes will take the worldview that they are learning in the classroom and in other aspects of their life and apply it to athletic competition.  The athletes will be challenged to live out the Pride of the Lions philosophy as explained below.

Athletic Director

PRIDE - In nature, lions group in family units called prides.  As members of a Covenant Christian athletic team, each team will become a Christian community, working to accomplish a goal.  Each member will be given significance through the role or part of the unit that they are able to play.  Each member has a task to perform, just as in the body of Christ.  I Corinthians 12:12-26 speaks to the unity and diversity in the body and on a team. "So, if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it." (v. 26) Together, exemplifying the Lion PRIDE traits, our teams will find success, as defined by each team.

P – Perseverance - Perseverance is defined as continued pursuit, persistence in anything undertaken.  Lions athletic teams will be encouraged to persevere through whatever challenges their athletic season may have to offer. "Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." (Romans 5:3-5)

R – Respect - As Lion athletes, proper respect will be afforded to all: opponents, fans, officials, coaches, parents, teachers, and teammates.  I Peter 2:17 states, "Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God."

I – Integrity - Integrity is moral soundness, purity, incorruptness, uprightness and honesty.  Each athlete and coach in the Lion athletic program should strive to have a reputation of integrity.  Titus 2:7 and 8 says, "Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us."

D – Discipline - "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we, an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified." (1 Corinthians 9:24-27) Being a disciplined athlete means attending every practice, maintaining conditioning during the off season, practicing skills to improve for the benefit of the athlete and the team, making sure grades are good so as not to become ineligible.  Athletics requires discipline.

E – Excellence - "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians  3:17a) Because we are presenting all we do to the Lord, athletes at Covenant Christian School attempt to do all things with excellence. Everything we do, we do it for Christ and we believe He is honored when we give Him all the glory.
